LimaWeather(dot)com - Accurate weather for Allen County

This web site is privately owned and operated, and is for personal interest in weather and meteorological sciences, amateur radio activities, and education. This site contains general information, weather graphics, and data tables. The site is arranged in frames for easy operation.

Weather graphicNational information comes from various government sources, such as the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Local weather data comes from several locations within the Lima area. This information is sampled each second. Pages are updated about once every 15 minutes. Times are encoded into the images to aid in determining when the readings were taken.

The primary weather system is located at 1424 Rice Avenue, at WLIO Television. The system takes samples from sensors in the east yard of the station. A secondary system is located at 706 MacKenzie Dr, 1/2 mile to the west of the WLIO site. In some areas the readings are compromised, such as wind readings in taken on the west end of Lima. Tall Oak trees, sometimes as much as 97 feet tall shade the sensor located at 30 feet above average terrain.

The owner takes great pride in the accuracy of data and efficiency of the web site. However, the owner can not be held responsible for loss/missing data due to equipment performance issues or power outages. Calibrations of weather equipment are performed monthly using standards approved by the A.M.S. Typically an error rate of less than .3% is noticed on equipment.

Viewers of the content on this web site should be aware that all readings may differ greatly from area to area. A temperature reading on a farm in Elida will not normally be the same as the weather station located in the populated west side of Lima. Also, the sensors used on the weather station are calibrated to a prescribed standard, and may not match the $8.95 thermometer purchased at Lowes. The same applies for barometer, humidity, dew point, etc. All readings may be different once the location has changed. A third factor is local contamination. When you set up weather equipment at home, be sure that gauges that measure temperature are away from asphalt, or black objects that can reradiate heat, or exhaust fans on the exterior of a building.
